PQ 2011: Why I Walk

The Australian student submission for the 2011 Prague Quadrennial for Performance Design and Space explored the urban environment as a stage for infinite narratives occurring concurrently. We documented these performances by creating a method of systematically collecting what remained. The method we developed can be recreated in any city in the world. We displayed our collection of objects and imprints from both Sydney and Prague creating an archive of fragmented stories.

For me the project explored the nature of living in the city where every passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as my own,  populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and experiences. We were collecting fragments of an epic story of thousands of other lives in which you might only appear once as an extra sipping coffee in the background, as a blur of traffic on the highway, as a lighted window at dusk.
